38 Esplanade Flood Assessment

38 Esplanade Flood Assessment

Hartigan was engaged to conduct a comprehensive structural assessment of a building prior to its sale.

The Outcome

The structural assessment successfully identified the overall condition of the building and the potential risks associated with the redundant oil tank. The comprehensive flood risk evaluation provided valuable insights into how climate change could impact the site, equipping the client with crucial information to make informed decisions regarding the property sale.

How we did it

Our process began with a thorough desk study and visual inspection of the building, followed by a detailed flood risk assessment. This included surveying the site, analysing various climate change models, and assessing potential flooding scenarios. We then investigated the redundant oil tank, strategically positioning our assessments to ensure thorough testing while navigating the challenges posed by its location within an active car park.

The Challenge

The project presented several challenges, particularly the need to assess the oil tank in a confined area with limited access due to surrounding columns and piles. Additionally, modelling flood risks in St. Helier required careful consideration of the town's unique layout and the potential impacts of rising sea levels. Balancing these complexities while maintaining safety and accuracy was essential throughout the assessment process.
