The Outcome
The conversion added valuable living space without compromising structural stability. Strengthening the ceiling joists and carefully integrating new elements, such as rooflights and a staircase, ensured a functional and well-supported design, enhancing both comfort and usability.

How we did it
We designed reinforcing of the existing ceiling joists by increasing their depth with glued and screwed timber, reducing deflection and preventing creaking. The roof was checked for stability, with the new ceiling acting as a top tie. Rooflights and stair trimmers were carefully incorporated into the structure.

The Challenge
The existing structure had varying joist sizes and load-bearing conditions, requiring a tailored reinforcement approach. The connection between old and new elements was designed to ensure structural integrity, minimizing movement and deflection. A careful balance was needed to maintain stability while accommodating new openings and access points.
