Chambers

Hartigan was proud to contribute to the refurbishment of Chambers Pub, a beloved venue on the Island since 1994.

The Outcome

The refurbishment of Chambers Pub was successfully completed, blending modern structural enhancements with the existing character of the building. Key additions included a new mezzanine level, a mono-spine steel staircase, and alterations to the ground floor. The updated venue now features improved functionality while maintaining its original charm.

How we did it

Hartigan provided comprehensive structural design and drawings for the new elements, including the stage, mezzanine, and staircase. Our engineers closely coordinated with the contractor throughout the process, ensuring swift responses to on-site discoveries. Temporary works were carefully designed to support both the new structures and the historic granite walls, maintaining safety and stability during construction.

The Challenge

The main challenge was working within the constraints of a historic building that had undergone various previous alterations. Additionally, since the pub remained operational during the design phase, structural assessments were delayed until construction began, requiring the team to adapt quickly to site conditions and ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
