The Outcome
The project a concrete batching plant at Granite Products’ La Gigoulande Quarry, which includes a new substation, laboratory/control room, and improved drainage systems, was commissioned by the end of January 2018, ensuring a continuous supply of materials for the island’s construction industry. The environmentally friendly design and use of recycled materials contributed to the project’s overall sustainability goals.

How we did it
Hartigan designed and managed the project, overseeing the fabrication of the new plant in Turkey and coordinating logistics for timely delivery. We developed the accompanying substation, control room, and drainage systems, using pre-cast concrete units for the gravity retaining wall and implementing geotextile matting for slope stabilization, all while adhering to sustainable practices.

The Challenge
The project encountered challenges, including adjusting site levels for the pre-fabricated equipment and stabilizing a steep slope near a vulnerable rock face. Additionally, the proximity of high-voltage electricity cables required careful planning. Coordinating the logistics for transporting the plant from Turkey added complexity, necessitating effective project management to ensure timely completion within budget.
