The Outcome
A concrete canvas lining on the rock face at the back of the bunded area was successfully installed, enhancing the safety and stability of the fuel storage tanks. This innovative solution provided an effective barrier against potential erosion and environmental risks, satisfying Jersey Electricity’s requirements and contributing to the overall integrity of the storage facility.

How we did it
Hartigan initiated the project by assessing the site and preparing specifications for the initial shotcreting method. After evaluating tenders, we explored the alternative solution of concrete canvas, collaborating closely with Geomarine and the product manufacturer to ensure its appropriateness for the site. Our team meticulously planned the installation process, coordinating with the contractor to navigate the operational site and the presence of high-voltage cables.

The Challenge
The project faced significant challenges, including the need to maintain normal operations at the site during installation. Working in confined spaces around oil tanks and gas-oil pipes required careful manoeuvring and planning. Additionally, protecting existing supply pipes and cables from potential damage was critical, as any disruption could lead to serious environmental hazards, including oil leaks. Despite these challenges, the project was executed efficiently and safely, resulting in a successful installation.
