Normans Subsidence

Normans Subsidence

Some buildings comprising Normans depot had originally been constructed over a backfilled former brick pit.  This type of strata may be subject to settlement and combined with settlement of drainage systems it resulted in building subsidence, which happened to the warehouse in the timber yard.

The Outcome

The outcome included new surface water drains and the engineering of new roads and slabs within the site which allowed new racking to be installed and better roads for accessing the site.

How we did it

After a walkover survey it was determined that further, more intrusive. investigation was required in order to establish an appropriate method of remedial works.  Following this investigation, designs were completed for a new drainage system for the site, new hardstanding and new foundations for racking.

The Challenge

The works were on an active site, and therefore careful phasing of the drainage systems needed to be undertaken to not only minimise effects on the site business but to also allow the existing drainage to remain operation until the new systems were completed.
