The Outcome
The project successfully delivered a new timber-clad vehicle and pedestrian crash barrier at the top of the railway walk slope on La Mont des Longchamps. Road safety in the area was significantly improved by preventing potential vehicle and pedestrian overruns.
How we did it
We developed and designed a vehicle and pedestrian barrier that minimises visual impact on the local environment while meeting safety standards. Timber was chosen to minimise visual impact and blend with the surroundings.
As designers and project managers, Hartigan coordinated design, planning, and installation of the barrier. The Parish was involved in the project from the start, which ensured that the outcome met their standards and expectations.

The Challenge
The project involved installing the barrier at the top of a large slope adjacent to a busy highway. The key challenge was designing a solution that protects against the relatively high vehicle speeds and impact angles, despite minimal ground restraint. Further challenges included the complexities of working on a slope near the highway, a key island walkway, and above a nearby watercourse. Early contractor involvement in design ensured a cost-effective and safe outcome.
