Snow Hill Car Park

Snow Hill Car Park

The Snow Hill Car Park project involved a series of engineering works conducted by Hartigan between 2015 and 2019.

The Outcome

The Snow Hill Car Park project successfully addressed critical safety and structural concerns, ensuring the stability of the avalanche canopy and the supporting columns. The comprehensive repairs and stabilization works not only enhanced the safety of the car park area but also preserved the integrity of the historic granite blocks at Fort Regent. As a result, the project contributed to improved public safety and maintained the aesthetic value of the site.

How we did it

Hartigan initiated the project by conducting a thorough survey of the avalanche canopy, brick and block columns, and the surrounding rock face. Our team prepared detailed tender documentation, including specifications and technical drawings for the necessary repair and replacement works. Once the contractor was appointed, we effectively managed the contract and supervised the implementation of all engineering solutions. Additionally, we conducted an extensive risk assessment of the granite blocks at Fort Regent, employing a combination of internal and external surveys to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

The Challenge

The project faced challenges such as limited access to work areas and the necessity for out-of-hours operations to reduce disruption. Coordinating with multiple stakeholders complicated the surveying and repair processes, while the assessment of the granite blocks required intricate techniques to navigate the structural challenges posed by the historic features. Despite these hurdles, Hartigan successfully executed the project.
