The Outcome
These sculptures were created to celebrate the 'Arrival of the Puffins,' drawing attention to the challenges faced by these remarkable birds and Jersey's vital role in their protection, as well as that of other seabirds. Standing at 4 meters high, the sculpture was supported by a frame constructed from steel hollow sections, either welded or bolted together.

How we did it
Engineers undertook numerous structural design checks on various options, both for the frame shape and means of fixing it to the ground. The unveiling of the puffin sculpture took place on 10th April 2022 and the result is a spectacular local landmark.

The Challenge
Challenges included not only the size but also the location, with prominent winds at Plemont playing important part in the design considerations.
