The Outcome
The outcome of the project was the successful transformation of the former Elizabeth Terminal Restaurant into a modern all-day dining establishment. Structurally, the building was enhanced to accommodate new facilities and design features, including a mezzanine floor, offices, kitchen, and bar areas. The project was completed on schedule in July 2019.
How we did it
When working on existing buildings, our first priority is to assess the suitability of the structure to accommodate the planned changes. For this project, we conducted comprehensive design checks on key structural elements, including the ground slab, foundations, multi-storey metal studwork, and framing to support plant installations in the ceiling space. Additionally, we engineered the new mezzanine floor, as well as the offices, kitchen, and bar facilities.
The Challenge
The main challenge was adapting the existing building to support significant changes, including a mezzanine floor, new offices, and plant equipment. Ensuring the ground slab, foundations, and structural elements could handle these updates.
